The Northern Health Authority employs more than 7,000 physicians, nurses, administrators and other health care professionals in Northern BC.
As the city is the centre for health care services in the region, nearly half of these health care providers are located in Prince George as well as their corporate office.
University of Northern British ColumbiaThe University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is one of Canada's best small universities. For the last three years, the annual ranking of Canadian universities by Maclean's magazine placed UNBC as the top small university in Western Canada, and 4th in Canada among small, primarily undergraduate universities. Recent expansions inlcude the Northern Medical Program, the new Teaching and Learning Centre and the Northern Sport Centre - the largest of its kind in British Columbia and home to the province's longest indoor track.
The College of New Caledonia (CNC) is the region's only comprehensive post-secondary education provider and has long been an institution of "first choice" for students of BC's Central Interior. The college provides modern training facilities for students in a variety of Trades and Technology programs, which includes a new environmental forest management program.
The Prince George branch of Sprott Shaw Community College offers programs in healthcare, tourism & hospitality, business & administration and international studies. The Academy of Learning Computer and Business Career College offers career training programs in areas including accounting, business, computers, graphic and web design, health care and clerical occupations.

Major HighwaysPrince George is located at the junction of the north-south Highway 97 and the east- west Highway 16. The provincial government has recently made extensive investment into road infrastructure in Northern BC, which will increase the speed at which freight can reach its destination.
Cargo - The Prince George Airport (YXS) is an International Gateway on the Circle Route between major Asian and American markets. It boasts the third longest runway in Canada at 11,400 feet, long enough to handle the largest aircraft in the world. A Business and Logistics Park is also currently under development, with more than 1,000 acres of affordable, serviced land.
Passenger - Canada's two largest carriers serve Prince George and the region with direct service to Vancouver 11 times daily. Central Mountain Air and Northern Thunderbird Air connect the north and BC's interior through scheduled flights and charters services. The Prince George Airport supports international travel, with expanded baggage systems and Canada Border Services facilities.
Prince George is the divisional headquarters and main operations hub for Canadian National (CN) Rail in northern BC. The CN railway line runs through Prince George, connecting the city to the major rail system in British Columbia and has created a shipping network with the shortest and fastest routes to key Asian and North American trade markets.
VIA Rail provides regular daylight passenger services from Prince Rupert to Jasper, serving primarily a tourism market. Prince George is a stop point on this route.
Prince George is the closest rail and road access point to the Port of Prince Rupert, the closest North American port to Asia. The port has the deepest natural harbor in North America with a berth depth of 18.7 metres that can easily accommodate the largest container vessels.
