Prince George is a major transportation hub for western and northern Canada. The city, located at the intersection of the north-south Highway 97 and the east-west Highway 16, has abundant road, rail and air infrastructure that gives it a strategic role in the transfer of products from the northern heartland to domestic, U.S. and Asian markets.

Prince George is the divisional headquarters and main operations hub for Canadian National [CN] Rail, which operates an international rail system of over 20,000 miles east-west across Canada and north-south through the middle of the United States which connects the city to key global trade markets. CN has created a shipping network that places Prince George on the shortest and fastest routes to key North American and Asian trade markets. CN WorldWide provides seamless, door-to-door transportation across the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans, serving all major ports in North America, Europe and Asia.

The CN Intermodal and Distribution Centre has an 84,000 square-foot warehouse, ten acres of outside storage and a full range of services. The facility has an annual throughput of 25,000 containers, with potential to expand, and has a significant role in generating backhaul traffic destined for Asian markets via the Port of Prince Rupert.
